Homewerks Dual Wireless Radio Thermostat Review

warrantyWiFi and wireless thermostats have become a hot item over the last few years. They offer control through your smart phone or through a website. It’s great to be at work and be able to turn up your furnace because you are coming home early and want it to be warm, or when you’re lying in bed and freezing to death, you could just reach over to your nightstand and turn up the furnace with your phone. That makes wireless thermostats worth every penny in my book. The Homewerks Dual Wireless Radio Thermostat is just that, but is it worth your money? Let’s take a look.

The Homewerks Dual Wireless Radio Thermostat has a beautiful 7- day programmable thermostat with touchscreen controls. It also has 5 physical buttons, two on the side, 3 on the front, one is a nice “save energy” button. This is great for those looking to save more money throughout the year and I’m guessing that is most of you. The 7-day programmable feature means you can program different temperature settings for each day of the week. So, if you work late on Wednesdays, you could set your furnace temperature to rise two hours later than the rest of the week. These options give you great control over your heating/cooling and will help you save a lot of money by optimizing your HVAC equipment based on your schedule. This model also comes with the ability to program up to four independent periods per day for even more control and optimization.

WiFi Setup

If you are interested in buying the Homewerks Dual Wireless Radio Thermostat then there’s little doubt that it is because of the wireless/WiFi abilities. Setup is easy if you have any experience connecting a phone, laptop, or anything else to a wireless router. If you don’t, then it’s moderately difficult. The instructions that come with the thermostat are functional, but there are websites and guides that will make it easy to figure out if you lack the basic WiFi setup skills. The Homewerks Wireless Radio Thermostat was tested with a couple different routers and both worked flawlessly. It has been reported that it works with most every router, so there shouldn’t be any issues unless you are using a Jurassic router. It should be noted that this router will drain the batteries quickly. The batteries really should only be used for backup and the thermostat connected directly to the “C” wire, which will keep it powered. If you don’t have this option just buy rechargeable batteries and swap them out every month.

Once you’re connected to the router you will be able to control you’re heating/cooling from your smart phone, tablet or internet browser. There is an app for iOS and Android, but if you have a windows phone you will need to use the internet browser. We tried everything and the iOS app seems to be the best option. The Android app works fine, it’s just that the iOS app seemed to be a little more sleek. Something us geeks like. The web browser through (energyhub.com) is pretty slick to0, but not as good as the apps. They all function the same and will get the job done and that is controlling your heating/cooling unit.

You don’t have to have a modern HVAC system to use the Homewerks Dual Wireless Radio Thermostat. Homewerks brags it works with nearly all heating/cooling units and our research shows the same thing. The Homewerks CT-30-H-K2 managed to keep connection for a solid week with one exception that happened during a storm. We registered our email with energyhub.com and received an email alert letting us know about the problem. A quick router reset fixed the problem and it had nothing to do with the thermostat. An extra little perk though.

Conclusion

If you are in the market for an affordable wireless thermostat then the Homewerks Dual Wireless Radio Thermostat is an incredibly good choice. It has many features that most other thermostats would charge double for. With all the great features for the price, we have no choice but to give the Homewerks Wireless Radio Thermostat two thumbs up.
